Hope that you are all having a wonderful holiday today. Jake is actually home and we've been having a great time all week planning the perfect day off with Daddy. At least this year I don't have to worry about Jake getting hit by bullets fired by people celebrating in their own insanely dangerous way during public fireworks celebrations.
Enjoy your day, have fun and be safe. And for those whose spouses or parents are on duty for Independence Day, save the sparklers for another day and bring out the red, white and blue for them with a day-after celebration. After all, it's not about a date on the calendar, it's about celebrating and honoring our country, past and present, and the wonders around us here in the United States.
So true! Just like any other holiday that my man has to work (he hasn't celebrated the 4th of July with us since he became an officer...even when he was a reserve!) we celebrate when we get a chance. My small town has a Celebration of Liberty the day BEFORE the 4th, so we already got to see fireworks and spot daddy on bike patrol. We've learned to make do and still had an absolute blast! In fact, depending on what kind of a night it is, we have a few fireworks that he may pop on home for, help light, then go on his merry way while I put the babies to sleep. It's all in a day's work!

Happy 4th, Everyone! It is truly a day to stop and think about what our Founding Fathers did, they put it ALL on the line for their (and our) future.
Grilled shrimp appetizers and barbeque brisket/ribs were the highlights of the day for us.
Deputy F prepared the shrimp in marinade beforehand and we brought 'em up, packed on ice, for the hour-long drive to his brother's house.
Of course, since his driving habits are so, um, cop-like, my placing his loosely covered pans in a heavy-duty plastic bag was a carpet-saver.
After enjoying the home-cooked meal provided by Brother's Wife, we took a moment and heard a reading of the main portions of the Declaration of Independence (by yours truly).
And on the way home, the blue and red light bars flashed as the working officers kept the freeway flowing from wanna-be parkers who were trying to see fireworks at a big display. He commented, "I'm sure glad I don't have to work that any more."
Bless his heart, I'm glad too.
Thanks to all the officers who do, we surely appreciate it.
