I'm hoping everyone had a great Thanksgiving. We had dinner at my brother-in-laws house. His wife cooked a great meal and it's always great to be with family. It was really weird for me this year, though, because I'm used to being THE COOK for the holidays. If any of you remember my famous holiday cooking extravaganza posts from the past (don't worry, I'll do them again) you know I'm an awesome baker and pretty fair cook. This year all I did was bake two pies (apple and pumpkin mousse) and make one fancy salad (an autumn harvest salad consisting of greens, dried cranberries, candied walnuts, apples sliced very thin, blue cheese crumbled and a champagne vinaigrette). I felt decadent and kind of lazy not doing more.
And yet, I still had my badge of honor as I sat down to the table. As all cooks know, knife injuries happen most during the holidays, as cooks work on their complicated meals. My sis-in-law and I laughed as we showed each other our bandaged fingers - proof that we really did make our own meals.
I've had the chance to cook more lately. Yea!
